Malo Malo

Sydney’s own MALO MALO, described by triple j as a ‘highly potent’ & ‘progressive’ salsa band, Malo Malo’s leader Danny G Felix draws inspiration from classic 1970’s Cuban, Puerto Rican & New York dance bands. Imbued with Latin rhythms such as guaguanco, son montuno, mozambique, cha cha, son, songo & bolero their music is energetic, uplifting & captivating. 

Danny G spends his time between Sydney & Cali, Colombia – the ”capital of Salsa” ! It was there where he built a strong bond with many musicians while working with the all-star Colombian Salsa group Orquesta Calibre.  MALO MALO, passionate about music, multiculturalism, human rights & equality.  Released their debut album “AUSTRALEÑO” 2019. Several tracks charted internationally & were featured in the top 100 “New Generation Salsa” playlists. It was ‘”Album of the week” on Eastside Radio & SBS Spanish, with the single “Finao” being “song of the week” on radio FBI’s Bare Necessities. 

They featured in 2020 performing at Cali’s biggest new years day street party in the barrio Ulpiano lloreda shortly followed by sold out shows in Colombia’s capital Bogota. MALO MALO’s explosive live shows always set fire to the dance floor with their powerful & infectious groove. Their latest releases are the  Live in Cali EP recorded at Cali’s famous salsa club La Topa Tolondra and “Mi Ritmo” a collaboration with the Sydney electro-latin super trio Oyobi and is out on London’s AtJazz record label.

JIMMY BOSCH with
Gonzalo Porta & the Sydney All-Stars

Jimmy was born in Jersey City, New Jersey to Puerto Rican parents.  He started playing trombone at 6 years of age and started performing in New Jersey & NYC at 11 years of age.  By age 13 he was playing in several local Latin bands, “La Caliente”, “Arco Iris”, “La Sonica.”

 

Jimmy went on to study Classical Music at Rutgers University after which he met Manny Oquendo and joined his band.

He has worked & toured numerous times with Salsa Legends Manny Orquendo, Ray Barretto & Cachao

Jimmy has also toured around the world and recorded with FANIA, Eddie Palmieri, Ruben Blades, Tipica Novel, Combinacion Perfecta, Pete El Conde Rodriguez, to name but a few.

In 1996 he founded his own band “La Orquesta Jimmy Bosch” and to date has recorded four albums as a solo artist.

 

The new generation of Salsa bands & musicians are calling on Jimmys’ talent and he features regularly on new productions. To date he is featured on well over 100 recordings.

Jimmy finds himself being one of the few Original Legends of the 1970s Salsa generation of Musicians, and so is in demand for his musical back catalogue. He is now also recognised as an ambassador to the new generation of Musicians and Dancers due to his amazing wealth of knowledge and experience from the golden age of the NYC live music Salsa scene.

Jimmy continues to tour as a solo artist and band leader imparting his years of experience with musicians all over the world. “La Orquesta Jimmy Bosch” and Jimmy Bosch y su Sexteto de Otro Mundo” continues to tour globally

Gonzalo Porta & the Sydney All-Stars

Gonzalo Porta born in Australia moved to Uruguay, his family’s homeland, as a small child. His singing talent was recognised early which started his music career at just 13. Huge successes followed in Uruguay & throughout South America including a string of number 1 hits & gold discs with groups like Monterrojo, La 424, Karibitos con K, Zanatta y L Autentica. Gonzalo was also part of the Film “Aparte”, a remarkable film focusing on the Uruguayan people.

With eight gold records to his name, this acclaimed international singer/songwriter returned to Australia in 2006 keen to expand his music career & to share his talent with audiences from Australia & beyond!

With such a versatile voice Gonzalo is in very high demand within the Latin Music scene for his accredited solo work, as a featured lead vocalist, or for being the leader & driving force behind Gonzalo Porta & the Sydney All-stars.

Gonzalo is currently promoting his second solo album “SIN FRONTERAS”. The album contains 9 tracks featuring “Solo Mia”, currently Top 25 on Billboard tropical charts. Awarded also with “Song Of The Year” by Promomusic Bcn in Europe.
